Example text

While our prototype [22] is at the moment limited to textual and 3D representations, it is based on a general concept of free and synchronized exploration of an artwork across all its representations and it can be further extended to other media (a set of photos, videos, technical drawings and surveys). This system has been developed with the idea of using it as an educational tool: a sort of interactive multimedia textbook, usable in a class to present a specific artifact or, later on, to support the student/scholar when studying the object.

Only the DAG has to be kept in RAM during the selection of each view-dependent representation. This means that a small memory size is needed to store the multiresolution structure. The data corresponding to the selected patches are loaded from disk on demand. This results in a very low number of OpenGL function calls (on the order of one thousand) even for large models and this allows to obtain efficient rendering performances. The Nexus scheme supports the management of models with attached color data.

In other words, it expresses Fig. 6. A comparative analysis of four columns : from left to right, the polygonal mesh, the produced depth map, the extracted discontinuities, the created simplified geometric reconstruction and the average values Geometry vs Semantics: Open Issues on 3D Reconstruction 47 its ability to evoke a universe of knowledge that can inform us about the semantic construction of an architectural element. The shift from multiplicity to intelligibility presupposes the presence of a human operator whose aim is to filter, reduce and interpret all data collected in order to retain only those which will replenish the theoretical model.
